My home is a vessel and nothing more
As soon as a person walks through my door
I do not want them to look at my home
And think that it’s empty and cold
My home is a vessel and nothing more
Please don’t analyze the decor
I didn’t buy furniture just for the looks
So please do not mind if it’s old
My home is a vessel and nothing more
Sometimes the dishes or dust get ignored
But the souls who come in will get fed and refreshed
So I won’t worry if there’s laundry to fold
My home is a vessel and nothing more
You’re most welcome here and won’t be a bore
We’ve coffee and tea and usually sweets
If you still want some more, just be bold
My home is a vessel and nothing more
The couches don’t match and there’s stuff on the floor
But we’ll stay up all night if there’s more on your mind
And pray over the cares that we’re told
My home is a vessel and nothing more
As is everything given by the Lord
So come settle in, we’ll laugh and we’ll cry
My home is a vessel for souls
My home is a vessel and nothing more
Let’s get back to the reason, the root, and the core
God gave us this home to bring people together
Not for showcasing a house that’s been sold
My home is a vessel and nothing more
We’ll share what we have, whether richer or poorer
We’ll open our doors for connections and love
Community is worth more than gold

Thanks for reading. I hope this poem serves as a reminder for all of us (including myself) what is truly important. It’s not our possessions or the to-do list or the aesthetic in our house; it’s the individuals who enter in to be given hope, encouragement, to be shown Christlike love, to make lasting connections.
